Sometimes life gets out of balance
Sometimes, life suddenly no longer feels the way it used to. Emotions, relationships or everyday life can become difficult to manage. You may be going through a personal crisis, struggling with anxiety or exhaustion, coping with the loss of someone close to you, or noticing that familiar patterns keep holding you back.
Physical symptoms, difficulties in relationships or at work, and a fragile sense of self-worth can also affect your emotional balance. Over time, this can leave you feeling overwhelmed, alone or unsure of how to move forward.
Are you looking for an English-speaking psychotherapist in Munich?
In my private practice, I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults in English and German. I support people experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem or challenging life transitions.
Therapy offers a confidential space in which you can better understand recurring patterns, emotional conflicts and the deeper causes of your difficulties. Together, we explore what is affecting your well-being and develop new ways of dealing with difficult situations.
English-speaking psychotherapy in Munich
Living and working in an international environment can be enriching, but it can also bring particular challenges. Changes in relationships, professional pressure, relocation, cultural differences or the feeling of not quite belonging can affect emotional well-being.
For many people, it is easier to talk about personal experiences, thoughts and emotions in the language they feel most comfortable with. I therefore offer psychotherapy in English as well as German.
You do not need to have a specific diagnosis to seek support. Psychotherapy can also be helpful if you feel overwhelmed, stuck in recurring patterns or simply notice that something in your life needs to change.
In my practice in Munich, I offer a confidential and personal setting in which we can explore your individual situation together.
What can psychotherapy help with?
People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a clear problem or diagnosis. At other times, it may simply feel as though something is no longer working the way it used to.
Psychotherapy can provide support with:
- Anxiety and panic attacks – persistent worries, fears or situations that increasingly restrict everyday life
- Depression and low mood – feelings of emptiness, loss of motivation or difficulty experiencing joy
- Stress and emotional exhaustion – feeling overwhelmed by professional or personal demands
- Low self-esteem and self-doubt – recurring feelings of inadequacy or being overly critical of yourself
- Relationship difficulties – recurring conflicts, difficulties with closeness or patterns that repeatedly affect relationships
- Life transitions and personal crises – changes in relationships, work, family or other important areas of life
- Psychosomatic symptoms – physical symptoms that may be connected to emotional stress
- Recurring emotional patterns – situations, thoughts or feelings that seem to repeat despite efforts to change them
You do not need to know exactly what is causing your difficulties before starting therapy. Understanding what lies behind them can itself be an important part of the therapeutic process.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy – understanding what lies beneath
Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses not only on current symptoms, but also on the underlying emotional patterns and experiences that may contribute to them.
Sometimes we find ourselves reacting in similar ways again and again – in relationships, at work or in difficult situations – without fully understanding why. These patterns may have developed through earlier experiences and can continue to influence how we think, feel and relate to others today.
In therapy, we explore these connections together. The aim is to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognise recurring patterns and gradually find new ways of dealing with emotions, relationships and challenging situations.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy can therefore help not only to reduce symptoms, but also to understand what may be behind them and create more lasting change.
What happens in the first session?
The first session gives us the opportunity to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to therapy.
You can describe your current situation, the difficulties you are experiencing and what you would like to change. You do not need to prepare anything in advance or have a clear explanation for how you are feeling.
We will also discuss whether psychotherapy may be helpful for you, what you can expect from the therapeutic process and whether working together feels right for both of us.
The first appointment is therefore not a commitment to long-term therapy. It is an opportunity to ask questions, gain an initial understanding of your situation and decide on the next steps together.
Costs & health insurance
My practice is a private psychotherapy practice. Treatment is available for privately insured patients, patients eligible for Beihilfe and self-paying clients.
Private health insurance
Private health insurance usually covers psychotherapy, although the exact conditions depend on your individual insurance plan. Before starting therapy, I recommend contacting your insurance provider to clarify the number of sessions covered and whether prior approval is required.
Beihilfe
If you are eligible for Beihilfe, the costs of psychotherapy may be reimbursed according to the applicable regulations. The exact level of reimbursement depends on your individual circumstances.
Self-paying clients
You can also choose to pay for psychotherapy yourself. In this case, no application to a health insurance provider is necessary, and therapy can usually begin without an insurance approval process.
If you are unsure which option applies to you, we can discuss the practical details during our initial consultation.
How often does psychotherapy take place?
Psychotherapy usually takes place in regular sessions, often once a week. A consistent schedule provides the continuity needed to explore your concerns and gradually develop a deeper understanding of recurring emotional and behavioural patterns.
How long is a therapy session?
A standard psychotherapy session lasts 50 minutes.
How long does psychotherapy take?
The overall duration of therapy depends on your individual situation, your concerns and the goals we develop together. Some issues may be addressed within a shorter period, while deeper or long-standing patterns may require more time.
During the initial sessions, we will discuss what form and duration of therapy may be appropriate for you. The therapeutic process is regularly reviewed together and adapted to your individual needs.
